Logistics Capability

Snapshot of YG‘s Logistics Capacity

Rail

South Australia has an established and mature rail network (yellow in the below graphic), along with a complete highway transportation network, providing smooth logistics channels that cover all three major iron ore production provinces.

YG Group’s northern and eastern project clusters have a rail transport capacity of approximately 10 million tons per year each. The northern project cluster is 450 kilometers from Augusta Port, while the eastern project cluster is 310 kilometers from the port.

The group is currently using two rail sidings in the northern project cluster, including Rankin Dam (1,500 meters long) and Wirrida (1,800 meters long), which are sufficient to meet the transport needs of the northern project cluster. The eastern Billeroo project will construct the 1,800-meter-long Olary rail station, which will serve the entire eastern project cluster in the future.

Port

The only ports in South Australia currently capable of handling bulk commodity exports are Adelaide Port and Whyalla Port.

The group’s current export capacity is as follows:

  • Adelaide Port: 1.5 million tons per year (Panamax ships/containers)
  • Whyalla Port: 3.1 million tons per year (Cape ships/bulk cargo)

Once Port Playford (Phase 1 construction) is completed, the total additional port capacity is expected to increase 7.2mtpa (with further expansion possible).
