2014-2018

  • Founding member of YG Group, Mr Shan was the largest DSO customer of the Cairn Hill Project, owned by its former owner IMX Ltd.
  • Mr Shan commenced his journey to South Australia and established his first company in Australia, Cu River Mining Australia Pty Ltd (Cu-River).
  • Completion of Mr Shan’s acquisition of Cairn Hill, Snaefell, and other Cu River mining projects, representing the cornerstone magnetite reserves of YG Group in the Far North magnetite province of SA.
  • The liquidated Cairn Hill Iron Ore Mine resumed operations, with iron ore exports commencing via Port Adelaide.
  • First shipment of Cairn Hill DSO products was delivered to our customers.
  • One million tonnes of iron ore were shipped since the restart of Cairn Hill.
  • Australia Ocean Logistics (AOL) was established, with YG Group expanding its business further into the supply chain.
  • AOL’s acquisition of 2888 SeaCo containers, representing approximately 1.5-1.8 mtpa export capacity at Adelaide Port.
  • Establishment of Young Steel Mining Pty Ltd (YSM) and exclusive mining services and offtake agreements for the Billeroo Project, representing YG Group’s expansion of its magnetite reserves in the Braemar magnetite province in eastern SA.
  • Cu River’s acquisition of lands (Port Playford site) of the former Filinders Power Station site with retained infrastructure, and commenced our strategy of converting this site into a multi-user export and mineral processing facility.

2019-2020

  • Port Augusta Operations (PAO) was established, acquired the Port Playford site, and commenced the project development phase of the Port Playford project. YG Group expanded its business to include export and mineral processing services.
  • AOL signed the PK low-grade cooperation agreement and started its long-term partnership with Peak Iron.
  • AOL entered into all sub-contracts for low-grade operations (road, rail, port, mining services, etc.).
  • PAO completed its port development concept design by WSP and feed design by WGA.
  • PAO completed its barge concept design, with feed design in progress.
  • AOL started production at PK, and the first train arrived at Port Adelaide.
  • YSM became an exporter of PK ore products and established its brand in the market.
  • AOL entered into transaction documents with Peak Iron for its mining services and offtake operations of Peculiar Knob.
  • PAO converted from a Pty Ltd to a public company, marking the commencement of YG Group’s corporate governance improvements according to IPO standards.
  • AOL entered into all sub-contracts for high-grade operations for the Peculiar Knob project.
  • AOL purchased all necessary mining equipment, including trucks, for its Peculiar Knob operations.
  • PAO lodged its DA application for the Port Playford Project.
  • Port Playford mineral processing project concept design completed.

2020-2024

  • PAO obtained Port Playford DA approval.
  • Rally Construction Pty Ltd (Rally Construction) was established, with YG Group expanding its business to include mine site civil constructions.
  • First Cape-sized vessel carrying Peculiar Knob high-grade products shipped out of Whyalla Port.
  • YG Group had 5 million tonnes of DSO shipped out of South Australia.
  • Rally Construction entered into an exclusive offtake and funding support agreement with Peak Iron on its iconic initial DSO project (namely Buzzard Project) within the Hawk Nest project zone.
  • Commencement of operations of Buzzard Project, YG Group’s total production (Peculiar Knob plus Buzzard) ramping up to 3.1 mtpa, shipping out of Whyalla Port in early January 2024.
  • Completion of YG Group restructuring; YG Group became a proper corporate group with a parent holding company and five wholly-owned subsidiaries, including YSM, AOL, PAO, PAM, and Rally Construction.
  • Signing of downstream DSO iron ore sale agreement with YG’s iconic customer ITG Group for 40% of our DSO production volumes.
  • Signing of downstream iron ore sale agreement with YG’s iconic customer Anglo America for 60% of our DSO production volumes.
  • Commencement of the pre-feasibility phase for YG Group’s newly proposed HDRI/Green Iron plant project (on the Port Playford site).
  • Commencement of project development/approval phase for the Port Playford Wet Processing Plant project.
  • Commencement of project development/approval phase for the Snaefell Magnetite Project.
